Data Use Policy

Effective August 29, 2026 · Version 1.0

This policy summarizes permitted and prohibited uses of NPI Data Hub downloads. It supplements the Terms of Service; the Terms control if the documents conflict.

What the Data Represents

Products are derived from public CMS NPPES records and, where applicable, the NUCC Health Care Provider Taxonomy. A row reports source data for the represented release and does not independently verify licensure, employment, credentialing, availability, deliverability, or clinical quality.

Permitted Business Use

A purchaser may use a purchased file within its organization for lawful provider-network analysis, market research, CRM enrichment, directory operations, business development, and compliant professional outreach. Internal transformations and analyses are permitted.

Outreach Responsibilities

You are responsible for determining whether and how you may contact any person or organization. Follow applicable privacy, telemarketing, email, state, federal, contractual, and platform rules. An NPI record is not consent to receive marketing.

Prohibited Use

You may not resell, sublicense, publish, or distribute the raw file as a competing database; use it for unlawful discrimination, harassment, fraud, identity theft, clinical decision-making, patient eligibility, or emergency response; attempt to identify patients; or combine it with unlawfully obtained sensitive data.

Corrections and Sensitive Addresses

Do not use a location that you know is residential or sensitive for intrusive contact. Report suspected errors or sensitive addresses through our private correction form. Approved suppression changes public and commercial outputs while preserving private source lineage.

Attribution and Source

NPI Data Hub is not affiliated with CMS, NPPES, or NUCC. Source attribution and release context accompany each product. Removing those notices in a way that misrepresents the source or freshness is prohibited.
