Healthcare Provider Taxonomy codes describe provider classifications and specializations. An NPI record can contain multiple taxonomy entries, so a product must define exactly how it selects or represents them.
Define the product rule
A list labeled “dentists” needs an explicit mapping between its product category and NUCC taxonomy codes. The contract should also say whether it includes individual providers, organizations, or both.
Preserve source context
Normalization should retain the taxonomy code and display name, plus the rule used to identify the primary taxonomy. That keeps downstream analysis explainable when reference definitions change.
